Swehla Hunt is a native of Omaha, Nebraska. She earned her Bachelors of Music with a concentration in voice from Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama. She continued her education by earning her Masters of Music Education, K-12 Teaching Certification and Kodaly Level One Certification, at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  Swehla has performed for a number of diverse audiences including Presidents Clinton and Bush, Mayors Litke (South Bend, IN) and Fahey (Omaha, NE), the Premier of Bermuda, Governors Johannes (Nebraska), Keating (Oklahoma) and Bobby Jones Gospel. She has performed as a guest soloist for many including, the Omaha Symphony, and the Voices
of Omaha, and opened for Yolanda Adams, Vanessa Williams, Witness, and Rickie Dillard and others.  She has conducted many choirs, some of which include: the Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company Gospel Choir; the University of Nebraska Gospel Choir; guest director and accompanist for Show Choir Camps of America at Milliken University, and for the  “Music Experience” of the Caribbean SDA Conference in Barbados.
 

 

Some of her compositions include 'The Capping Song' for the Nursing Department of Metro Community College; and 'The American Medley',which she performed for President Bush. She also composed and arranged the songs on her two CD
projects, 'Unique God' of 1998 and her most recent release of 2007, 'Satisfied', which can be enjoyed on Pandora, Spotify, or IHeartRadio and purchased on Itunes, Amazon or CD baby.
When she is not performing, directing, composing, speaking, or doing workshops, in and out of the country, Swehla enjoys teaching music for Portsmouth Public Schools; creating products for her company, SWEHBLAZE Foods LLC; writing plays and films for her company SWEHCO Entertainment Group LLC; and creating music and scripts for Gospel Pup and
Gospel Dawg, an animation and puppet theatre series, created by her and Todd Hunt, her
husband, that helps young people to develop good characters. Swehla’s overall passion in
